A Tourism Committee meeting of the Board of rrustees of the village of Arthur, rL, was held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. village President Ron Kingery called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Roll call was answered by committee Members Mike Mcwilliams, Marsha Bowyer, Anna Herschbelger, Sharon Daily, and George Fritz.
Visitors present were Rod Randall, Arthur Area Association of Commerce, and Stephanie Wierman, Moultrie Dougias County Fair Association.
President Kingery reviewed the purpose of this committee meeting and previous expenditures.
S. Wierman presented information regarding the money lost due to the weather last year and changes at the Fair this year. The Fair Board requests $4,000.
R. Randall presented revised information regarding the Association's marketing plan for the year. They are focusing more in the Chicago area than in previous years. The Association requests $ 11,000.
The current balance is the fund is $13,711. The income per year is about $6,000.
There was lengthy discussion about the amount to be given to each organization and how each can put "heads in beds", and the amount that should be left in the account after giving to these requests. The fair is a one week event during the year; the Association's advertising is year-round and the only tourism advertising for the Village. There is a need for additional rooms in the Village.
Several suggestions were made about the amounts to be given. The majority of the group agreed to recommend to the Board to give $9,500 to the Association of Commerce and S 1,500 to the Fair Board.
S. Daiiy made a motion to adjourn; M. McWilliams seconded. President Kingery adjouned the meeting at 8:05pm.
